- Field Service Controls Engineering Team Leader

Job SummaryATS Life Sciences, a division of ATS Corporation, designs, builds and services critical automated solutions for medical device and pharmaceutical companies. We are seeking a Field Service Representative – Controls Lead to manage a team of service representatives and drive customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities- Manage the administration and delegation of work for team members according to their skill and experience.
- Collaborate with the Service Applications Engineering team to support proposals and own jobs from concept through life‑time support.
- Plan with the Technical Service Manager to meet budgets and manage overtime within departmental requirements.
- Ensure the group works safely and achieves no lost time accidents.
- Create a positive, motivating team environment and address performance issues such as absenteeism, attitude, workmanship and efficiency.
- Travel is typically 15 % of the time, with potential higher periods during service rotations.
- Participate in reviewing objectives and continuous improvement initiatives with the team.
- Engage in the planning stage of projects with the Assembly Manager, Project Manager and project team to communicate customer needs.
- Attend design reviews and critique designs for functionality.
- Support the Manager in selecting FSR Controls and serve as an ATS ambassador at customer sites, ensuring safe installation and compliance with ATS Health and Safety Manual and customer procedures.
- Communicate constructive ideas and maintain manufacturing standards.
- Ensure employee health and safety, providing adequate training and safe work practices.
- Conduct 1:1 coaching sessions and performance appraisals.
- Provide input on planned capital expenditures for manufacturing equipment.
- Maintain ethical standards in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
- Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety, and Environment compliance.
- Hold team members accountable for HSE compliance during performance reviews.
- Implement corrective measures for unsafe conditions and acts.
- Provide necessary equipment, materials and protective devices and ensure they remain safe.
- Offer guidance, instruction and supervision to employees.
- Take reasonable precautions for employee protection.
- Step in to perform FSR Control duties when required (excluding travel).
Education – A post‑secondary diploma, degree or equivalent qualification specializing in electrical, mechanical or software controls technology.
Experience- Minimum four years of hands‑on automation/control environment experience.
- 10+ years of experience programming PLCs and HMIs using Allen Bradley or Siemens software.
- Strong communication, professionalism, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, basic electrical and system control.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, reference manuals and assembly system instruction guides.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to quickly learn and troubleshoot systems.
Works in a shared environment. The environment contains hazards including electrical wiring and motorized vehicles (tow motors).
Physical Requirements- May be required to stand at workstations for prolonged periods.
- May need to perform a wide range of movements including bending, crawling, kneeling, etc.
- May be required to lift up to 30 lbs.
- May work with odorous substances within confined spaces.
- Use of hand tools requires significant manual dexterity.
- Supervisors promote, monitor and enforce safe work practices and protect the environment.
- Ensure equipment, materials and protective devices function safely.
- Ensure compliance with divisional health and safety procedures.
- Apply progressive discipline for health, safety and environmental violations.
- Advise employees of potential or actual health and safety risks.
- Provide appropriate instruction for safe work (Document Number: CHSES-001-02).
- Take every reasonable precaution for employee protection.
- Compensation: $50.00–$68.75 CAD per hour.
